Guitar "Spider" Excercise - How and Why to Practice
A ubiquitous exercise for beginners and intermediate students. I take a couple of minutes to talk about how and why to practice it. It's about finding ease in finger independence. Have a look, shoot me some questions in the comments. Thanks for watching!

Learn to Tune Your Guitar from Your Cat
Переглядів 137Місяць тому
Cats can hear two octaves higher than humans. so if your guitar is out of tune in a register where you can hear it, it is absolute chaos in the listening range of the cat. Here my new friend, Stewart, seems to think that my OM 21 could use new strings. He is absolutely correct. You cannot fool a cat about tuning. I love the expressions Stewart makes here as I tune this Martin from standard tun...

RIFF HACK- Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" - Verse
Переглядів 1364 місяці тому
Good technique is all about efficiency of effort. Accomplishing the necessary work with the least possible effort. When I come up with an easier way of playing something that sounds good to my ear, I call it a "Riff Hack". I found that the verse riff in @aerosmith's "Walk This Way" was challenging my students wrists. Especially those emulating the low slung guitar posture of @joeperry5032. Usin...

    IN THE CONTEXT OF MUSIC, HE'S ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. AN ALBUM FROM 1980 DOESN'T SOUND AS MONOTONOUS AS AN ALBUM FROM 2018? I'M TALKING THE INTRUMENTS AND EVERYTHING. THE USE OF SAMPLES AND TECHNOLOGIES LIKE AUTOTUNE LIMITS THE TIME "ARTISTS" INVEST IN PERFECTING THEIR CRAFT BECAUSE "AUTOTUNE WILL CORRECT THAT", OR "AN ENGINEER WILL BALANCE THAT OUT"

    • @jamclass
      @jamclass 27 днів тому

      I think it's more the economics of music that affect this. Not the technology itself.

    • @kwanele_dev
      @kwanele_dev 26 днів тому

      @@jamclass the technology does play a huge part. "producers" have an immediate access to drum samples that have prepared before hand, but the problem everyone has access tot eh same drum samples. two songs can use the same drum patterns and samples with the producer having to put zero effort into playing an instrument. same goes for lyrics, singers wake up, touch their phones and hop onto the studio, with a little to no exposure to reality, so they basically recycle lyrics. the eperience with whatever they sing about isn't first hand...

    • @jamclass
      @jamclass 22 дні тому

      @@kwanele_dev I would say that again, this economics. Not tech. Producers grab the easy, already made stuff because: there is no money in recorded music the way there used to be. Time is money. So they dont' take time to craft a cool custom sample. It doesn't scale. As they say. I don't think that has anything to do with creativity. It has to do with economics.

It's just a starting point to help beginners with something even many advanced players have trouble with: excess tension in the hands. So you start from giving them all a job to do, and gradually increase their independence.
